As many of you know, "Arrow" has been a slow-starting, but quickly growing show on the CW regarding the rise of the DC hero, "Green Arrow".
Due to "Arrow"'s success, along with previous successful runs such as Smallville, DC has teamed up with the CW to explore yet another hero in the DC franchise: The Flash-specifically Barry Allen (not Wally West, as previous rumors have stated).
The Flash will make his appearance in an early episode within the second season of "Arrow", which will then spin off into his own series. No title or release date for the series has been announced.
During the Television Critic's Association press tour, CW Executive Mark Pedowitz had this to say:
"We plan to introduce the recurring character of Barry Allen who is the Flash. We're planning an origin story and we'll see how it goes. We do want to expand on DC Universe, and we felt this is a very organic way to get there." -HollywoodReporter
Among the DC film news surrounding the "Batman/Superman" film, a live-action Flash film was also confirmed to be in development, proving that DC has Justice League on the brain. The Flash film has been stated to be aiming for a 2016 release date.
Could the upcoming series and film have direct connection? And if so, could the same go for Green Arrow? What could this possibly mean for the Justice League film? All we can do now is sit and wait patiently. The Flash will be here quicker than you know it.
