Lucasfilm and Disney Sign Multi-Year Contract With EA

By: Bailey Casello

"Today it was announced that Lucasfilm Ltd. and Disney Interactive are entering into a multi-year, multi-title exclusive licensing agreement with Electronic Arts Inc. (EA) for the creation of new high quality Star Wars games aimed at the core gaming audience and spanning multiple genres for console, PC, mobile, and tablets."

I will admit, that a state of panic was the first thing that crossed my mind when I saw this. Why? Because the thought that someone else that isn't LucasArts was creating Star Wars video games had finally set in. But when I realized that it was EA that was taking over, and I let that set in, I got all sorts of excited. The company that gave us games such as Madden, Sims, Crysis, Medal of Honor, Battlefield, and the rest of the plethora of endlessly compelling video games, is now going to be giving us Star Wars games. And let's be honest, if there is one thing fans want, it's Star Wars video games that are done well, amazing graphics, and highly addicting. One of the things that made Battlefront so great was its never ending playability.

Speaking of, I can't be the only one who thought of this after reading it-Battlefront 3 needs to be something EA does. I'd be completely flabbergasted if that wasn't the first game they put into development. I mean, if anything, first person shooters are something EA does very well, so why wouldn't they start out by giving us Battlefront 3? They have already dabbled in Star Wars some with Star Wars: The Old Republic, which was done with Bioware, but still, dabbling is dabbling.

Ladies and Gentleman I'm more excited than the nerd in Robot Chicken dressed as a Taun-Taun carrying George Lucas on his back. Check back to The Sonic Saber for upcoming news on this development.
