Michael Bay's "Mutant Turtles" Are No Longer Aliens

By Dave Bouressa

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Notice how the word "Alien" doesn't show up? Apparently Michael Bay didn't. When it was announced that Bay had picked up the franchise for a new film adaptation, it was announced that the Turtles' origin was going to be changed to make them of alien origin-and the internet exploded in rage.

But now, according to, the "alien" concept for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has been scrapped.

Bay had this to say:

"There was that quote saying that we’re making [the Ninja Turtles as] aliens. We're not, It’s the ooze! It’s from the original source material. These are from the original writers, and I never went out to correct myself in the press. I do listen to the fans and I do want this to be authentic. I think they’re going to be really happy with this movie. When I see the digital stuff, the turtles look great."

Yes, there was a quote. Because it was a real thing. In fact, it was not only a quote that was based on your idea, but it was a quote that you stood by and told everyone to "take a chill pill", causing even more backlash. Perhaps someone at Paramount finally thought "Maybe the changing the backstory for beloved characters probably isn't the best for ticket sales...". You can backpedal all you want, Michael Bay, but people will still never forgive you for Transformers 2.

So what do you think about the new TMNT news? Are you glad that Michael Bay is finally going back to original source material, or were you looking forward to a planet of Ninja Turtles? Let us know!
