Tim Curry to Star as Palpatine in Star Wars The Clone Wars

By Bailey Casello

In the unfortunate turn of events with the passing of Ian Abercrombie, a replacement has been found to be the voice of Palpatine for Star Wars: The Clone Wars. I present to you none other than Frank-N-Furter... I mean Tim Curry!

Dave Filoni had this to say about the choice:

"We had an extensive search to find a new voice for Palpatine. It wasn't just a matter of finding an actor who could recreate the lines from the films. We needed someone to deliver a performance that could stand alongside what Ian McDiarmid and Ian Abercrombie created as this legendary Star Wars character. At the end of the day, there is little question that bringing in an actor of Tim's caliber was perfect for Chancellor Palpatine."Source: Huffington Post

Now I'm not completely against this choice, not at all, I'm sure that Tim Curry will be able to do some different things with the voice of Palpatine. But I am not entirely sure that he was the "perfect choice". There are things about his voice that are very distinct and definitely don't give off the same timbre or character that we got with Ian McDiarmid and Ian Abercrombie. Tim Curry has one of those voices that even when he is acting his voice still manages to come through. To me the voice isn't deep enough. It doesn't have that hint of dark side that we have all become familiar with. I am sure that in time we will get used to hearing him as Palpatine, but for now the voice difference is blatantly obvious. Again, just my opinions here, not dissing the man at all. He is a great actor, but I don't think he was the shoe-in fit that they needed.

Here is a glimpse of what we will get with Tim Curry as our new Palpatine. Take a listen and let us know what you think of the change.

Be sure to catch Curry's premiere to the series this Saturday morning at 9:30 am on Cartoon Network.

Slenderman Web-Series "Marble Hornets" Getting Feature Film

By: Dave Bouressa

You hear that sound? That is the sound of a thousand terrible things heading this way.

Soon, millions across the globe will be wetting themselves.

A report from reports that the Marble Hornets webseries that has been on Youtube for quite some time has finally been picked up for a full feature film. had this to report:

The sixty-seven chapter horror web series 'Marble Hornets' is about to trade up to a much larger viewing window. Mosaic, a company best known for their comedies, is producing a film version of the YouTube sensation based around The Slender Man, or The Operator as he is called in this series. This expansive online narrative began with the story of a film student who abandoned his latest project after encountering The Operator while shooting. From there, the story gets progressively darker and more complex; pulling in other characters trying to solve the mystery of the original film student's disappearance. 'Marble Hornets'was created by Troy Wagner and Joseph Delage and boasts over 250,000 subscribers online. James Moran, second unit director on the most recent 'Paranormal Activity' films, will direct the film, working from a script by Ian Shorr ('Splinter').

As folks are watching this series of videos from behind a blanket, to actually playing the Slender game for PC and Mac, the idea of the Slenderman has been haunting people for years. The Slenderman, as he is called, is a very tall man with no face, and a pure white head. He wears a black suit, has tentacles protruding from his back, and has very long arms said to catch children in the night. Although the basic concept is not scary by itself, it has become a symbol of fear among the internet.

My only concern is that the James Moran, a major contributor to the Paranormal Activity films, is involved. I personally do not see any appeal to those films, and they continue to put out the same garbage every year-but they make money. A lot of money. Stop giving them your money! You're only encouraging them!

My points is, I hope that it does not become gimmicky. Of course, Marble Hornets and Slender is all about suspense and jump scares and truly scaring you, but I simply hope that such an incredible web series does not become watered down by Hollywood. When stories move from amateurs who know what they're doing, to professional who put out crap, it never leads anywhere promising.

Sony Announced the PS4, But We Don't Get To See It (Yet)

By Kailey Rynne

On Wednesday, Sony officially announced the PS4, and the internet exploded.

During the two-hour extravaganza (streaming live all over the web) we learned everything from detailed specs and interface upgrades to the lineup of PS4 games and how developers are using the technology to launch the next stage of gaming evolution.

The only thing we didn't get to see was the actual console.

Presumably Sony is saving that unveiling for this year's E3 event, scheduled for June 11-13. Until then, we'll just have to satisfy ourselves with more fantasy mock-ups of what the PS4 might look like—but probably won't.

The good news is that Sony has set the PS4 release date for "Holiday 2013," so we'll be seeing the PS4 on the shelves by November or December. There is still no official word yet about how much the PS4 will cost.

If you somehow missed the announcement (I don't know how; live updates have been plastered all over Facebook and Twitter for the past 48 hours), keep reading for The Sonic Saber's recap.

As expected, the PS4 will unleash unprecedented computing power upon the console gaming world. It's really more of a disguised PC than a console. In fact, Sony representatives at Wednesday's event referred to the hardware as "supercharged PC architecture."

The Sonic Saber reported rumors last month that the PS4 would feature only 4GB of memory, half as much as the Xbox 720's supposed 8GB, but yesterday's unveiling confirmed that the PS4 also boasts a full 8GB. The GDDR5 memory ensures 177GB per second of bandwidth, Sony said.

Here's a rundown of the specs released by Sony, which you can read in full here:

The new Dualshock 4 features enhanced rumble capabilities, a touchpad input, a "share" button for instant video uploads or livestreaming, a headphone jack and speaker, and a colored light bar for simpler player identification.

The upgraded PlayStation Eye camera is able to track the position of each PS4 controller individually via the light bar. It also serves as a regular camera for taking video, and can log you into your PS4 using face recognition. Sweet!

I for one was glad to see that the overall design of the good ol' Dualshock hasn't changed much. The curves appear to be smoother, closer in design to the Xbox controller, but otherwise it's the same hunk of plastic we know and love.

I'm super excited about the new "share" feature, which I'll talk about a little later—after we take a look at some of the incredible games coming to the PS4 platform.

For those of you worried that the PS4 will block used games, have no fear! An IGN report confirmed that Sony executives say these rumors are false.

The PS4 will not block used games, but this is only true of used games for the PS4. The PS4 console does not feature backward compatibility with games from the PS1, PS2, or PS3.

That's right. Best hold on to your PS3, or be prepared for your PlayStation disk collection to start gathering dust. Even digital games downloaded from the PlayStation Store aren't natively compatible with the PS4. Damn.

Supposedly the PS4 might allow players to use an emulator or cloud service to play older games via the PlayStation Store, but nothing has been confirmed, and it's still unclear whether we'll be able to play old disks we already own.

A slew of new games have been announced for the PS4. I can't possibly talk about them all, but here are some of the highlights. Click on an image to see trailers and game footage from Wednesday's event.

A playfully animated action adventure game from one of the creators of "Crash Bandicoot." (Studios Japan)

Killzone: Shadow Fall
A new title in the acclaimed FPS franchise, "Shadow Fall" is set in a world resembling post-WWII Berlin. Oh yeah, and the graphics are gorgeous. (Guerrilla Games)

The Witness
A "Myst"-like puzzle game with an emphasis on exploration. (Thekla, Inc.)

Watch Dogs
This much-anticipated game, set in a cyberpunk future Chicago, features gameplay that appears to be a lovechild of "Assassin's Creed" and "Grand Theft Auto." (UbiSoft Montreal)

Infamous: Second Son
This game feels like a cautionary tale similar to "X-Men." Set in the fictional Empire City, "Second Son" is sequel to "Infamous 2" but features a new protagonist. This game is a PS4 exclusive. (Sucker Punch)

Diablo III
Blizzard surprised everyone yesterday with their announcement that "Diablo III" will be coming to both the PS3 and the PS4. (And some fans aren't too happy about it.) (Blizzard Entertainment)

Square Enix also announced that a new "Final Fantasy" title will be coming to the PS4. "Halo" creator Bungie is developing a brand new FPS series called "Destiny," which will be released on the PS3, PS4, and Xbox 360. "DriveClub," a new racing game from Evolution Studios, will also debut on the PS4. Finally, Capcom is working on a new project tentatively titled "Deep Down." Judging by the announcement trailer, it looks like a medieval dungeon-delving game that could be promising.

The redesigned Playstation Network encourages real-name identification over gamer tags, with optional Facebook integration. With the "share" feature, you'll be able to upload streaming video automatically via services like uStream, allowing your friends to spectate or join you in-game. You can even let one of your friends take over your controller remotely to help you through a difficult stage.

Sony's trying hard to show that it understands what players expect from a next-gen gaming experience. This "gamer-focused" concept is sure to appeal to many diehard console gamers.

Anti-social gamers will be happy to know that the PS4 does not require an online connectioneven if it's what Sony would prefer.

In the age of smart phones and tablets, Sony has also recognized that gamers want to be able to take their games with them wherever they go. That's where the PS4's "remote play" function comes in. With cloud gaming from Gaikai, players can easily transition their game from the PS4 to the PlayStation Vita handheld device. Eventually, Sony hopes to make all PS4 games compatible with the Vita.

Some big changes are coming to the PlayStation Store as well. With the PS4, you'll be able to demo any game in the store before purchasing. Over time, the store will "learn" your gaming preferences and recommend games based on past purchases and what your friends are buying. Sony said it also wants to enhance support for indie developers and make it easier to get published on the PS4.

Sound familiar, anyone? It seems like PlayStation is finally taking cues from the success of PC gaming's Steam platform by Valve.

With the PS4's high-end processor, players can finally download PlayStation games in the background instead of waiting for the download to finish. Sony claims you'll even be able to start playing a new game before it's finished downloading.

Guest devs at Wednesday's announcement brought some tantalizing demos of what the future technology of the PS4 can achieve. Take a look:

Were you impressed with Sony's presentation of the PS4? Let us know in the comments!

Petition to Save Star Wars: The Clone Wars???

By Dave Bouressa

If you are a fan of Star Wars The Clone Wars, and haven't been living under a rock, you know that Disney has purchased Lucasfilm and thus, the rights to Star Wars.

So with that, comes some speculation. Fans began to wonder if The Clone Wars TV series was going to remain on Cartoon Network. It is not. No new network has been "confirmed" at this point, but just about everybody is saying it will be going to Disney XD, which is where Disney places most of it's Marvel and other action-based programming.

However, because Season Six of The Clone Wars has not been confirmed to be on Disney XD at this time, fans are losing their minds. Out of nowhere, there is a sudden fear that The Clone Wars will be cancelled.

There is currently a Petition to Save Star Wars The Clone Wars that is currently picking up speed, and I just want to say some things.

Check out the Petition here:

First of all, should the series actually be in danger of being taken off the air, for whatever reason, I hope that this petition succeeds, or at least has some input to those in control of said things. I love Star Wars The Clone Wars, and it would be a shame to see it gone from my television every weekend.

However, It's not going anywhere! Disney just bought Star Wars! You don't buy something massive like Star Wars and not put out it's current (and very popular) product! That's financial suicide, and frankly doesn't make any sense!!! Also, why would the kill the Star Wars momentum with Episodes VII, VIII and IX on the way, along with multiple stand-alone films. Disney has ZERO REASON to not continue the series.

True, we have had no confirmation that it will be moving to Disney XD, but if it doesn't, that's ok! When the series first began, George Lucas stated multiple times that the show would create 100 episodes, whether the show actually aired on TV or not (this was before Cartoon Network picked up the series), and would be released on either iTunes or DVD (and blu-ray). The Clone Wars has made it to 100 episodes and beyond-and for good reason! It's a good show! In fact, some would even say that it is a great show! It has made Star Wars relevant again, and introduced Star Wars to an entirely new audience. Even if by some chance it DOESN'T end up back in TV, it will be released to purchase through iTunes or DVDs and Blurays! Production on Season Six has already been confirmed with a Seventh Season being rumored! The show has to end at some point, and given how close the show has molded into the events of Revenge of the Sith over the past few episodes, I don't see the show moving past a Seventh Season anyway, if there is one to begin with. I'm quite alright with Season Six being it's last run, whether on TV or not.

If you haven't seen the show, or refused to watch it due to either your shattered views of Star Wars from the Prequel Trilogy or that insultingly poor excuse of a film that launched this series in 2008, you are seriously missing out. Check out what you've been missing and maybe reconsider:

Again, like I said, I love Star Wars The Clone Wars. It is half the reason this entire website even exists. However, this petition has become spam. Perhaps it is my choice in facebook friends, but if one more person posts this petition on my wall, I hope it fails just to shut them up!

The show isn't going anywhere! Relax!

PREVIEW: Dragonball Z: Battle of Gods Trailer

By Dave Bouressa

A new trailer has come out for the new Dragonball Z film, "Battle of Gods".

Be sure to check out the new preview here:

Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods is the 18th movie in the Dragon Ball anime series. It will take place between Dragon Ball manga chapters 517 and 518, in the 10 year timeskip after Goku defeats Buu, but before the 28th World Martial Arts Tournament. Akira Toriyama along with Toei Animation, Fox International Productions Japan, Shueisha, Fuji TV, Bandai, and Namco Bandai Games are all involved. Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods is set to release in Japanese theaters March 30, 2013. There is no word on a North American or European release date at this time.

Obviously, I have no idea how to speak Japanese, and have no idea what they are saying, but I grew up on Dragonball Z, and hope that an English dub is released, because I will certainly check it out. However, I find the villain to be an odd choice. He (maybe she? I don't know) looks like a cross between Jaxxon (look him up-yes, you are actually seeing that) and the Egyptian God, Anubis. But to be fair, Dragonball's choice of villain appearances have been stranger....I'm looking at you, Majin Buu!!!

So all you anime and Dragonball fans, be on the look-out for "Dragonball Z: Battle of Gods"

PREVIEW: Star Wars The Clone Wars 5.19 "To Catch A Jedi"

By Dave Bouressa

We are almost at the end of this season. We have one more episode to go after this week's, but before we hit the end of it, let's look into the preview for this week's episode: "To Catch a Jedi".

After last week's stellar episode, we find Ahsoka Tano on the run from the Republic Military, and soon, even the Jedi Order.

To see that even Jedi that know Ahsoka very closely, such as Plo Koon have their doubts about her innocence, it truly makes you wonder how Ahsoka's story is going to end. Even if she does not perish, will she be forever excluded from the Order? And how long will the military keep up their hunt for her?

Check out a second preview at

Find out this Saturday (or Friday if you live in Canada) during "To Hunt a Jedi".

Star Wars The Clone Wars airs Saturday mornings at 9:30am on Cartoon Network.

Mark Hamill On the New 'Star Wars'

By Bailey Casello

According to several articles that I've seen, our beloved original cast members will be returning for Episode VII. Mark Hamill has essentially confirmed some sort of participation though in a little talk that he had with ETonline.

He says, "They're talking to us. George Lucas wanted to know whether we'd be interested. He did say that if we didn't want to do it, they wouldn't cast another actor in our parts- They would write us out.... I can tell you right away that we haven't signed any contracts. We're in the stage where they want us to go in and meet with Michael Arndt, who is the writer, and Kathleen Kennedy, who is going to run Lucasfilm."Source

At least we have a slight inkling of what is going on cast wise. But what about the plot? Everyone and their grandmother wants to know what is going on with the plot. Unfortunately Hamill knows nothing about the story line, but he is assuming that they new movie will center around the offspring of the original characters-which only makes sense given the current age of the original actors.

I am hoping that we can expect nothing but good things from this new movie, and movies to come. I am intrigued about all the possibilities that could come from this new trilogy and I'm hoping that they don't screw too many things up. But we will have to see. At least now we have heard a few hints from someone directly involved.

Peter Dinklage to Play Main Villain in "X-Men: Days of Future Past"

By Dave Bouressa

According to a report from, "Game of Thrones" star, Peter Dinklage, is set to not only star in one of the future X-Men films, but be cast as it's main villain.

Director Bryan Singer confirmed this news on Twitter recently, stating:

"Officially like to welcome #PeterDinklage from #GameOfThrones to #XMEN #DaysofFuturePast Very very excited!"

I will admit that I am not the biggest X-Men fan in the world, but I certainly enjoyed "X-Men: First Class" and highly await it's sequel.  "Days of Future Past" will combine the actors who played the Mutant Team in "First Class", such as James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, and Jennifer Lawrence, while also bringing in the classic actors for their future appearances, such as Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart.

At this time, the name of Dinklage's character is not revealed, but X-Men fans wait patiently for more!

Dinklage can still be seen as Tyrion Lannister on HBO's "Game of Thrones," which premieres March 31th.

John Williams Wants To Do Star Wars VII Music

By Bailey Casello

Ladies and Gentleman, this is what I've been wanting to hear since I knew there was going to be a Star Wars Episode VII. John Williams wants to do the music for the new movie. One thing that all people can agree on is that John Williams music made Star Wars memorable. And as someone who has spent their life loving and being involved with music, nothing makes me happier than hearing that he wants to continue his legend, and continue to make Star Wars music what it is.

Nothing is set in stone yet, Williams had this to say at a recent concert:

"We're about to play Star Wars and each time we do it reminds me of the first time we played it decades ago.... Now we're hearing of a new set of movies coming in 2015, I need to make sure I'm still ready to go in a few years for what I hope would be continued work with George."..

You'll notice in the source another composer mentioned for this, but hopefully they won't write off Mr. Williams for this one.

Since all these changes are taking place I think it will be nice for fans to have some part of consistency to look forward to. I can not see any other composer even thinking about touching this. John Williams has a type of magical touch when it comes to Star Wars. Everything he writes has such emotion and passion. And the theme of Star Wars has gone down to be one of the most recognizable themes ever.

I cannot stress enough how happy this would make me. I mean we are talking about the man who composed The Imperial March. I can only imagine what would be in store for our ears if John Williams composed Episode VII.

I'll just leave this right here and let that sink in....

Star Wars Fighting Game Footage Released

By Bailey Casello

So apparently there was supposed to be a new Star Wars fighting game. Which honestly if there was going to be a new game I would prefer that someone gave us Knights of The Old Republic 3, but I digress.

According to the president, Josh Tsui, "The footage (which I have posted below) is in-game footage and it is meant to show proof of a concept." Source

Here are my thoughts: one, like I stated above I would prefer that KOTOR 3 was a thing, mainly because the KOTOR games are so fun and really well done. Another thought I had was this actually has potential to be kind of cool. Depending on how well done the game is, and if the controls would be easy it would be nice to have a new Star Wars dueling game, but at the same time if they would be doing this in 3D then why not do something like create a super epic battle within a game. This idea also has a lot of potential to get stale really fast. You can only have so many different versions of Mortal Kombat. There would have to be changes and updates constantly. There would need to be different characters as well. I mean as cool as it would be to fight with the usual characters one would hope that they would incorporate some of the other characters in the universe. Maybe some EU guys. It's not like there aren't plenty to choose from.

The video shows a duel between Anakin Skywalker, and the Clone Wars version of a revived Darth Maul.

PREVIEW: Star Wars The Clone Wars 5.17 "The Jedi Who Knew Too Much"

By Dave Bouressa

We step into the second episode of this 4-part "Ahsoka" arc with "The Jedi Who Knew Too Much".

To recap from last episode, Ahsoka and Anakin have found the culprit behind the bombing of the Jedi Temple hangar and murder of several clones and Temple personel-a civilian named "Letta" and taken her into custody.

Be sure to check out these two clips from the upcoming episode:

In this clip, the newly promoted Admiral Tarkin and Ahsoka Tano argue on how to deal with Letta.

First of all, it's great to see Tarkin in action again. He had a brief cameo a few episodes ago, but we have not really seen him since Season Three's "Citadal Arc". I specifically watched all three of those episodes before stepping into this arc, and the relationship (or lack thereof) between Ahsoka and Tarkin is certainly great to watch, especially when you know that the disagreements on how their views of the Republic will greatly intensify over these next few episodes.

Also, the animation in Tarkin's face is astounding. The animators have really taken the model from Season Three and taken it to brand new heights. And as always, Stephen Stanton steps up to the plate and hits a home run with his incredible vocal talent. Barris Offee is clearly part of this episode, so it will be interesting to see how she fits in to this story. However, I find it very strange how Ahsoka and Anakin are almost reversed regarding their characters. Ahsoka seems like the rash one, and Anakin is the level-headed one. However, Anakin and Tarkin do tend to agree on alot...

In this clip, we see Ahsoka visiting Letta in prison.

It is interesting to see how different the Republic Prison system has changed since previous episodes. Before, it was a massive room with smaller cells, yet this is showing much more of an Imperial design.

To say I am excited for more of this arc is an understatement. The previous episode was a great first step into what is the beginnings of the Empire, and possibly the end of Ahsoka? I may not have liked Ahsoka at first, but if they end up killing her at the end of this, I'll be crying like a baby. I'll admit it.

"The Jedi Who Knew Too Much" will air on February 15th.

Be sure to catch Star Wars: The Clone Wars Saturdays at 9:30 am on Cartoon Network.

Obsidian Entertainment to Possibly Create Star Wars RPG

By Bailey Casello

Another role playing game about Star Wars could be in our future. Once again we will be taken back to the galaxy far far away, but this time, instead of revisiting The Old Republic, developers will take us to the stretch of time between Star Wars Episode III and Star Wars Episode IV.  Obsidian Entertainment, the developer behind Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2, and Fallout: New Vegas, pitched the idea to LucasArts, but approval is still needed by the big cheese Mickey Mouse and Disney.

"Obsidian CEO says idea for the new game is "within the top three pitches we've ever come up with"..."

I'm actually very excited to hear about this. I would like to see what Obsidian will do, again, with the Star Wars storyline. Especially since the time period of Episode III and Episode IV is such a pivotal point in the universe. It will be interesting to see what they do and where they will take the characters. I think this has potential to be a great game. The Knights of the Old Republic was not only extremely playable, but it did a wonderful job of sucking you into the game.

I also think that since Star Wars: The Old Republic has been released, and been making so many changes, gamers and fans of the Star Wars saga would be looking for something new to play. I'm not saying that SWTOR is a dying game, I still regularly play, and with the free-to-play switch the population has increased. But it would take something really drastic, besides adding 5 more levels and a new planet, to keep people interested for long term.

Hopefully Obsidian doesn't disappoint and gives Star Wars fans all around something with great playability, and a storyline worth following.

Updates will be posted as more information is found out.
