Contrary to what Abrams has said about his decline to direct Star Wars Episode VII just a few months ago, it appears he has changed his mind.
Many sites claimed to have "confirmed" that Abrams was directing, however, no official news had been given, and they were simply stating rumor as fact. I was not buying it until either Disney, Lucasfilm, or Abrams himself announced it. And guess what? Lucasfilm just announced it.
After a bevy of emails and phone calls, the formalities have been wrapped up, and at long last everyone can exhale and properly share the word with an excited Internet. Yes, J.J. Abrams will direct : Episode VII, the first of a new series of films to come from Lucasfilm under the leadership of Kathleen Kennedy. Abrams will be directing and Academy Award-winning writer Michael Arndt will write the screenplay.
Well, now we have a Director, and a writer. Now all we need is a cast? I'm looking at you, Hamill!
